Culturematic Discovery: The world can't get enough of Vin Diesel
237 days ago, inspired by Culturematic and Grant's dedication to cultureby.com and determined to start my own experiment, I landed on a blog. It is called The Narcissistic Anthropologist (http://thenarcissisticanthropologist.com/). The goal: practice applying socio-cultural insights to my observations and experience with consumer culture…

How to shop lift and shop leave at the Thrift store
Friday, I left a copy of Culturematic at the Thrift store in Stamford, Connecticut.
I felt a little odd leaving a copy on their library shelf. A kind of reverse shop lifting. Shop leaving?
But, really, it's win, er, win. The thrift store gets a little notice.
If someone buys the book,…

Doug Benson makes a culturematic
One culturematic strategy: taking up residence in someone else's cultural creation (aka content).
The classic example used in the book: Bud Caddell tweets from inside Mad Men.
Second example from the book: celebrity autobiography.
This example: Doug Benson invites smart asses to…

Great Culturematic approach to pet adoption!
This was a single's ad posted by the Atlanta Humane Society....
SINGLE BLACK FEMALE seeks male companionship, ethnicity unimportant. I'm a very good girl who LOVES to play. I love long walks in the woods, riding in your pickup truck, hunting, camping and fishing trips, cozy winter nights lying by the fire.Candlelight dinners will have me eating out of your hand. I'll be at the front door when you get home from work, wearing only what…

A Culturematic Institution
"The Lighthouse is an interesting organisation - it describes itself as a digital culture agency, rather than simply a digital arts agency, emphasising its broad interests that go beyond the arts sector. It’s an organisation that is forward looking and welcomes the challenges presented by technology. Perhaps this is why they are confident enough to let me and James drive the process without necessarily having a clear idea of the outcome (or direction) just yet."

One Culturematic was released yesterday in Richmond VA.
It's in between two galleries infused with coffee aromas.
Now we wait for it to phone in.
Good luck Culturematic.

Reality TV producer creates her own Culturematic
Katherine Brooks ("The Real World," "The Osbournes," and "The Simple Life") was recovering from major surgery when it occurred to her that, while she had over 5,000 Facebook friends, she had no close friends in real life. So she went to Facebook and posted a status saying, "the first 50 people who say YES...I'm coming to your city to meet you face to face." 50 people responded from 50 different cities. She went to AAA, plotted out a route that covered 11,000 miles, and brought a camera along…

Gertrude Stein does not endorse this book
I released a copy of Culturematic into the wilds of New York City today.
It's in Bryant Park, the one behind the NY Public Library.
Finding this statue of Gertrude Stein, I resolved to release the book into her care.
She accepted the copy with good grace, but made it very clear that I should not confuse her willingness to hold the book as any kind of endorsement of its contents, the author, the press, my agent or Tim Sullivan. I promise her that I would be clear…

Culturematic Scavenger Hunt - Clay + Hashtag = Culturematic

Treasure Hunt
I have been working on a Culturematic to promote Culturematic.
The original idea was to release copies of the book into the wild and to see who found them.
So I left copies in Amersterdam. And I left a copy in Cleveland.
I am still working on stage 2 of this treasure hunt.
In the meantime,…
